Tutoring / community work

Natasha Carlish, Arvon Centre Director at the Hurst: “Lucy combines an incredible intellect with considerable teaching skill. Her generosity of spirit means that she is able to encourage and nurture even the most un-confident of writers – under her tutelage students flourish. As a guest reader she has wowed and impressed audiences and programmers alike. Lucy is a wonderful asset to any programme or reading and it is always a great pleasure to host her at The Hurst.”

I love little more than sharing my love of writing with others, and enabling others to share my love of writing in turn! I am a hugely experienced tutor, having taught creative writing at the Universities of Salford, Cumbria, Strathclyde and Leeds Beckett. I have tutored and been guest reader on Arvon residential courses, and I’m a mentor for Arvon and Dadafest. During the roll-out of Scree, I will be running six Experiments in Hiking and Writing courses alongside guest tutors in the Lake District, and I’m particularly keen to extend the work which StAnza does with young people with a view to helping them to ‘get’ poetry!

Previously, I have worked with writers in a range of community settings, most notably during an extended residency with Balloch Community Woodland and Creetown Primary School, which led to the development of a poetry trail and standing stone circle in the local woodland.

Please get in touch with me at lucyburnett75@gmail.com for any tutoring or residency opportunities, working with writers of any age or experience.
